About This Calculator

The Weight Watchers Points Calculator helps you calculate the point value of foods based on their nutritional content. Weight Watchers uses a points system to help people make healthier food choices and manage their weight.

This calculator supports multiple Weight Watchers plans including the original Points system, PointsPlus, and SmartPoints. Points are calculated based on calories, saturated fat, protein, and other nutritional factors. Lower point values generally indicate healthier food choices.

Formula & Calculation Method

Weight Watchers Points Formulas:

PointsPlus (2010-2015):
Points = (Calories ÷ 33) + (Saturated Fat ÷ 9) - (Protein ÷ 10)

SmartPoints (2015-2022):
Points = (Calories ÷ 33) + (Saturated Fat ÷ 9) - (Protein ÷ 10) - (Fiber ÷ 12)

Original Points (pre-2010):
Points = (Calories ÷ 50) + (Fat ÷ 12) - (Fiber ÷ 5)

The formulas reward foods high in protein (which reduces points) and penalize foods high in saturated fat and calories. Points are typically rounded to the nearest 0.5. The exact formulas used by Weight Watchers may vary and are proprietary.

Which Weight Watchers plan should I use?

Use the plan that matches your current Weight Watchers membership. PointsPlus was used from 2010-2015, SmartPoints from 2015-2022, and PersonalPoints is the current system (2022+). This calculator supports older plans.

How accurate is this calculator?

This calculator uses publicly available formulas for estimating points. However, Weight Watchers' exact formulas are proprietary and may include additional factors. For the most accurate point values, use official Weight Watchers resources or the Weight Watchers app.

Can I use this for the current PersonalPoints plan?

The PersonalPoints plan (2022+) uses a different calculation method that considers individual food preferences and includes zero-point foods. This calculator is designed for older plans (Points, PointsPlus, SmartPoints).
