Formula & Calculation Method

Mulch calculations use the following formulas:

  • Volume (cubic feet): Length × Width × (Depth / 12)
  • Volume (cubic yards): Volume (cubic feet) / 27
  • Bags (2 cu ft): Volume (cubic feet) / 2 (rounded up)
  • Bags (3 cu ft): Volume (cubic feet) / 3 (rounded up)

Where:

  • Length and Width are in feet
  • Depth is in inches (converted to feet by dividing by 12)
  • 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet
  • Common bag sizes are 2 cubic feet or 3 cubic feet
