About This Calculator
The Loan Calculator helps you determine monthly loan payments, total interest paid, and the complete amortization schedule. Whether you're considering a personal loan, business loan, or any other type of installment loan, this tool provides accurate payment estimates.
Enter the loan amount, interest rate, and loan term to see your monthly payment, total interest over the life of the loan, and how your payments break down between principal and interest over time.
Formula & Calculation Method
Loan Payment Formula:
Monthly Payment = [P × R × (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^N - 1]
Where:
P = Loan amount (principal)
R = Monthly interest rate (Annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
N = Loan term in months (Years × 12)
Total Interest = (Monthly Payment × N) - P
This is the standard amortization formula used for fixed-rate loans. It calculates fixed monthly payments that include both principal and interest, with more interest paid in the early years of the loan.

Frequently Asked Questions
What types of loans can this calculator handle?
This calculator works for any fixed-rate installment loan, including personal loans, business loans, home improvement loans, and other amortizing loans. It does not work for interest-only loans or variable-rate loans.
How is this different from a mortgage calculator?
A mortgage calculator typically includes down payment, property taxes, and insurance. This loan calculator focuses on the loan payment itself, making it suitable for any type of loan, not just mortgages.
Can I calculate loans with different payment frequencies?
This calculator uses monthly payments. For bi-weekly or weekly payments, you would need to adjust the formula accordingly. Monthly is the most common payment frequency.
What if my loan has origination fees?
Origination fees are typically added to the loan amount or paid upfront. If paid upfront, they don't affect monthly payments. If financed, add them to the loan amount for accurate calculations.
